Apple are to enter the internet radio market with its iTunes Radio, which will surface on September the 18th. It will be launched together with a system update for Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7.

The launch of iTunes Radio was announced on September the 10th, and it’s an interesting new development for a company that did more than any other to bring legal music downloads to the masses.

Because millions of Apple devices will feature the new app, the tech giant are sure to have a massive audience for its new radio station right from the start. Also, how other internet radio stations react to such major competition will certainly be something to look out for.

New Gmail Tabs Changing Email Marketing

As Gmail unveils a new tab feature on their inboxes, email marketers are left wondering how the change will affect their business. Some fear that if Gmail filters all marketing emails under a single Promotion tab, users will find them easier to ignore and delete in bulk.

Gmail appears to group together all emails with an unsubscribe link, including newsletters, blog updates and promotional offers. However, not all emails are filtered correctly, with some overlap between the Promotion, Updates, and Forums tabs.

Internet traffic decreased by an estimated 40% as all Google services were affected, including Gmail, YouTube, and Google Drive. The tech giant couldn’t understand the reasons for the outage and wouldn’t be drawn into speculating as to why their services were down for up to five minutes.

Besides the dramatic slump in web traffic following the outage, it was noticed that there was a sharp increase in page views when Google’s services began functioning properly again.…

The rise of the Androids

The Androids are taking over, according to figures published in Millenial Media’s Q1 2013 Mobile Mix report. Alongside a 28% increase in ad impressions on iPhone and 19% on Samsung devices over last quarter, it reports a 125% increase for Amazon who are now one of the top 10 manufacturers.
Android devices now account for almost half the total tablet impressions, and impressions grew by 96% over the year, with Samsung tablets leading the Android field. While iOS still accounts for more than half the market, Android has increased in three years from just 6% in 2010 to an impressive 39%.
Another notable, if more modest shift is from smartphones to non-phone devices, which can be attributed to the advent of smaller, more portable tablets.…
