Google was hit by an unprecedented outage on Saturday night (17th August), an event which had a dramatic impact on the internet around the world.
Internet traffic decreased by an estimated 40% as all Google services were affected, including Gmail, YouTube, and Google Drive. The tech giant couldn’t understand the reasons for the outage and wouldn’t be drawn into speculating as to why their services were down for up to five minutes.
Besides the dramatic slump in web traffic following the outage, it was noticed that there was a sharp increase in page views when Google’s services began functioning properly again.
